A woman was allegedly raped by two men while returning home from a hospital

A mother and her daughter were reportedly raped by two men in Assam’s Charaideo district as they returned from a hospital where the family had been taken for Covid treatment.
According to police sources, the lady from the tea tribal village was returning from the hospital after testing negative when the two guys abducted her, carried her to a neighboring tea garden, and committed the crime.

According to reports, the event occurred on May 27 and was reported to police two days later.

“The COVID-19 was just identified and placed into home isolation for 1 week. We were hospitalized when my survivor’s daughter and mother’s health started to worsen.”

“When our tests came back negative, the hospital administration asked us to leave. We requested an ambulance to take us home, but they refused. At 2.30 p.m., we were dismissed from the hospital. We requested whether we may spend the night in the hospital due to the Covid curfew, but the hospital administration replied no “As her daughter said.

“We began walking. Two guys afterward pursued us. We fled, but they apprehended and abducted my mother. I was able to flee and tell the people. My mum was located two hours later “As her daughter said.

The hospital is around 25 kilometers from their hamlet.

“We are on the lookout for the defendant. We have submitted a complaint and are conducting an investigation. A medical examination report on the lady is pending “Sudhakar Singh, a senior police officer in Charaideo, said.

Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said that ambulances should be made accessible to patients who test negative for Covid.

The Assam Tea Tribe Students’ Association has requested that the culprits be arrested immediately.
