Assam: Rape and murder accused wounded while evading police. A 65-year-old priest was detain last week on accusations of raping and killing a 9-year-old child in Assam’s Morigaon district. Was wound early Friday by police fire as he reportedly attempts to escape prison.
“Syed Ali, accused of raping and murdering a young girl in Bhuragaon, Morigaon district. Attempted to flee under the guise of attending nature’s call,” special DGP GP Singh tweeted.
“Morigaon police had to employ the very minimal amount of legal force necessary to prevent escape. He sustains a gunshot wound to the knee and was take to the hospital for treatment,” he said.
The accuse man was arreste last Saturday on suspicion of raping and murdering the girl in a rice field on June 20.. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the girl’s family. And directed the police to expedite the inquiry in response to the matter.
According to the girl’s postmortem examination report, she had been sexually abuse and died of strangulation.
Friday’s incident is the fourth in the last month in which accuse people have been wound by police fire while attempting to evade arrest.
Apart from the priest, three others—a rape suspect, a drug dealer, and a livestock smuggler—were injured when police opened fire on them for reportedly attempting to flee.
