State Primary Teachers’ Association supported by All India Primary Teachers’ Association on Friday will be staging a protest by surrounding Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s residence.
As scheduled all the protestors will first gather at Udayan Krishti Sangha playground, Lakhara in Guwahati. From there, the protestors will organize a peaceful march towards Sarbananda Sonowal’s residence in Uzan Bazar and will stage ‘Chief Minister Residence Gherao’.
The protest will be staged demanding the upgradation of senior assistant teacher post in every lower primary of Assam to Head Teacher rank. Reimbursement of Grade pay worth Rs. 87,00 to Graduate teachers. Revoking the new National Pension Scheme (NPS) in Assam and revival of the old pension scheme. Solution for the problems of unpaid teachers as soon as possible and increase in teachers’ earned leave to 30 days a year.
Teachers from all the districts of Assam have arrived in Guwahati to participate in the protest. However, many teachers were detained in different parts of the state.

In a meeting held on December 30, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal instructed Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to upgrade the senior assistant teacher post in every lower primary school of Assam to headmaster rank. However, the department is yet to take any effective step in the implementation of the instructions given by the Chief Minister.
