Assam to confer ‘Asom Ratna’, other awards every year to ‘icons’. On Tuesday, Assam’s BJP-led government planned to regularly issue numerous honors, including the “Asom Ratna,”. To recognize “icons” who have made important contributions to society and numerous other sectors, including literature.

According to a spokesperson for the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), literary pensions will be given in the name of litterateur Homen Borgohain beginning this year on his birthday, December 7.

Borgohain, a Sahitya Akademi awardee, and noted litterateur died in Guwahati on May 12 at the age of 89 due to problems related to Covid-19. Additionally, the government resolved to establish a sports pension in honor of Bhogeswar Barua on his birthday, September 3. Barua was Assam’s first Arjuna Award winner.

Each year, the Assam government will also present an “Artiste Award” on January 17. To ensure the project’s seamless execution, the Cabinet authorized the allocation.
