TR Zeliang, a former Nagaland chief minister and NPF leader, thanked Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his contribution to the war against COVID19 both before and after taking office during a meeting with him.
Additionally, the MLA expressed hope that the Assam Chief Minister would continue to serve as a catalyst in resolving the unresolved Naga Political Issue in his new role.
Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma is also the convenor of the Northeast Democratic Alliance (NEDA) and has been an influential participant in the Naga Peace Process.
Meanwhile, in February 2021, the Nagaland Assembly formed a seven-member drafting committee to address the Naga political question, which has remained unresolved for more than two decades.
The panel, which was established on February 16 by Speaker Sharingain Longkumer, is composed of MLAs from the governing and opposition parties, as well as an independent.
After the Isak-Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM) called a truce, multiple rounds of talks ensued, but aside from the August 2015 Framework Agreement between the Centre and the NSCN (IM) and the November 2017 Agreed Position between the Centre and the Naga National Political Groups, no resolution to the political impasse was reached (NNPGs).
Since 1997, the union government has held two different parleys with Naga negotiators NSCN(IM) and Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs), which comprises seven organizations.
