The BJP has appointed new presidents for its units in Assam and Manipur. J.P. Nadda, the BJP’s national president, named Bhabesh Kalita. And Sharda Devi as presidents of the party’s Assam and Manipur sections, respectively, on Saturday.
Arun Singh, the BJP’s national general secretary and headquarters in-charge, said in a statement. That Nadda’s appointment of Kalita and Devi took immediate effect.
Kalita, a current Assam Assembly Member, will succeed Ranjeet Kumar Dass, who also was appointed Minister in the state’s newly established Himanta Biswa Sarma administration.
For the second consecutive term, the saffron party won the recently concluded Assam Assembly elections.
Meanwhile, the BJP has appointed a leader for its Manipur branch, which will hold elections next year.
Devi will replace Saikhom Tikendra Singh, who died last month of complications from Covid.
