The 11th National Voters’ Day is celebrated on January 25 by the Election Commission of India (ECI) with the theme, ‘Making Our Voters Empowered, Vigilant, Safe and Informed. The National Voters’ Day intends on active voters during elections and focuses on ECIs commitment towards conducting elections safely.
Since 2011, the NVD has been celebrated all across the country on January 25 every year marking the foundation day of Election Commission of India (January 25, 1950). Its main purpose is to encourage, facilitate and maximize enrollment and also to spread awareness among voters. The day is also utilized for promoting informed participation in election process. On the eve of National Voters’ Day, PM Narendra Modi Twitted, “National Voters Day is an occasion to appreciate the remarkable contribution of the EC to strengthen our democratic fabric and ensure smooth conduct of elections. This is also a day to spread awareness on the need of ensuring voter registration, particularly among the youth.”
