A man has been arrested here for sexually abusing his minor daughter for the past seven years, police said on Wednesday.
He said that a case was registered against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act on Monday evening.
The girl, now 17, studies in a government school in Ambala cantonment, police said.
A case was registered against the man after his daughter lodged a complaint with the police. He was produced in a court here on Tuesday from where he was sent to judicial custody, police said.
They said that the girl has alleged in her complaint that her father was repeatedly sexually abusing her from the age of 10.
She said her father first sexually assaulted her when he was visiting a relative in Chandigarh. He later made it a regular practice, the police quoted the complainant as saying.
He said that when he protested, his father threatened to burn him and his mother alive if he told anyone about it.
Police said that the victim said that when her father kept abusing her, she disclosed the matter to one of her relatives after which other relatives also came to know about it. When the school principal came to know about the incident, he informed the child helpline. The Child Helpline team counseled him and the matter was reported to the police.
Ambala cantt police station police officer Naresh Kumar said that he has received a complaint from the girl regarding this matter.
Under the POCSO Act, a case has been filed against the girl’s father. On Tuesday, the girl underwent medical treatment at the Civil Hospital of Ambala Cantonment. He said that his statements will also be recorded in the court.
