Assam MLA attacked by land encroachers from Nagaland

On Thursday, an Assam Congress MLA was assaulted by suspected land encroachers from Nagaland while visiting the Dissoi Valley Reserve Forest in Jorhat district’s Mariani Range.

Rupjyoti Kurmi, a Congress MLA, informed the media that he was assaulted by land encroachers from Nagaland while visiting a forest region to inquire about the encroachment of Assam’s forest land by some persons from Nagaland.

“I was saved from the assault by the Assam policemen escorting me, local villagers, and my two personal security officers (PSOs). As soon as we approached the area, the land encroachers began the fire. While we nearly escaped, the Assam police and my PSOs responded “Kurmi said.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed worry over the fire incident at the Assam-Nagaland inter-state boundary at the New Sonowal Border Outpost (BOP).

According to an official statement, the Chief Minister described the occurrence as sad and warned that it may jeopardize relations between the two neighboring states.

Sarma asked Special DGP G.P. Singh to undertake an investigation in the adjoining region.
