According to a survey conducted by Thomas Cook India and SOTC Travel as part of their Third Holiday Readiness Report. People’s interest in travel has increased significantly over the last month. With several expressing a desire to begin traveling immediately in order to overcome the pandemic’s period of relative immobility.
Significantly, 69 percent of respondents expressed a strong desire to travel in 2021 after the relaxation of limitations. With 18 percent prepared to go immediately upon unlocking and 51 percent over the next 3-6 months.
What has changed from the pre-Covid era to the present is that consumers are increasingly choosing vacation alternatives. That combines sanitary lodging with the highest safety standards.
Seventy percent of respondents rated health and safety as the most important factor. While 52 percent ranked room re-sanitation as a critical need.
The majority of respondents, about 66%, indicated a readiness to increase spending. In order to guarantee a better level of health and safety throughout their vacation.
Another noteworthy finding from the study is that an overwhelming 81 per cent of respondents reaffirmed their desire for refundable or no-cancellation goods.
With the virus’s unpredictability, consumers seek adaptable goods that allow for cancellations on a regular basis.

Thomas Cook India and SOTC Travel conducted a study of over 4,000 consumers across India’s Tier 1-3 cities to ascertain new consumer behaviours and trends that would influence travel choices in the Covid age.
The study surveyed customers in India’s top eight metropolises, as well as important Tier 2/3 markets such as Jaipur, Indore, Tiruchirappalli, Madurai, Nagpur, Surat, Baroda, Bhubaneswar, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Mysore, Coimbatore, Visakhapatnam, Guwahati, and Patna.
What’s noteworthy is that travellers want choices for domestic and foreign travel in about equal measure, as shown by the survey’s preferences.
Among internal locations, Kashmir, Leh-Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Goa, and Kerala have piqued travellers’ interest, while Dubai-Abu Dhabi, Maldives, Mauritius, Thailand, and Europe continue to be popular global travel destinations.
Additionally, 35% of respondents selected vacations lasting between three and five days; 52% selected vacations lasting between six and twelve days, and 13% selected vacations lasting more than twelve days.
Around 62% of respondents prefer to travel with family/friends; 20% prefer to travel alone or in a partnership, and 18% want to travel in a vaccinated group.
Even with the pandemic still looming, 77% of respondents expressed a strong preference for professional guidance/reassurance, with 27% choosing for retail locations, 17% for home service, 33% for a contactless experience through a virtual store/video chat, and 23% for reservations via website/app.
