Batra eyes the second term as world hockey body chief

Narinder Batra, president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), is seeking a second term as president of the International Hockey Federation (FIH). He will meet Belgium’s Marc Coudron in Saturday evening’s FIH presidential election.

Batra, a founder of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), was named president of the FIH in 2016.

In the run-up to the FIH presidency, the Indian sports administrator announced 11 primary measures he will take to elevate global hockey to the next stage.

Batra’s first term was prolonged after the FIH’s decision to postpone the Congress until 2021 due to pandemics.

If Batra wins the presidency, his second term will be reduced from four to three years.

Coudron is a member of the Belgian Olympic Committee’s executive board (BOC) and the president of the Royal Belgian Hockey Association (KBHB).
