Sanjeet Kumar of India beat Tajikistan’s Jasur Qurbonov 5-0 in the quarter-finals of the Asian Boxing Championships’ men’s 91 kg division here on Tuesday night.
In another bout, India’s Sakshi defeated Tajikistan’s Ruhafza Haqazarova 5-0 to advance to the women’s 54 kg semi-finals against Kazakhstan’s top seed Dina Zholaman.
Jasmine advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s 57kg division by defeating Mongolia’s Oyuntsetseg Yesugen 4-1. She will next meet Kazakhstan’s Vladislava Kukhta.
Simaranjit Kaur, who is aiming for the Olympics, also made a strong start in continental competition, defeating Raykhona Kodirova of Uzbekistan 4-1 to progress to the semi-finals of the women’s 60 kg division. In the semi-finals, she will meet Kazakhstan’s Rimma Volossenko.
Wednesday does not feature any women’s bouts, but India’s star male boxer Amit Panghal will compete in the men’s 52 kg quarter-finals. The Olympic silver medalist and the reigning champion will square off against Mongolian Kharkhuu Enkhmandakh.
Vikas Krishan, the 2018 Commonwealth Games men’s 69kg winner, will start the tournament on Wednesday against Iran’s Moslem Malamir.
