Lovlina Borgohain from Assam qualifies for Tokyo Olympics. Lovlina Borgohain of Assam has qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, becoming the state’s first female athlete to do so.

She will compete in the Women’s 69kg Welterweight division in the 2020 Summer Olympics, which will take place in Tokyo, Japan, from July to August of this year.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister, confirmed the news on Twitter. “A source of tremendous delight and pride for us as @LovlinaBorgohai becomes Assam’s first female pugilist to qualify for the #Olympics,” he posted.

In 2020, she bestowed honors to the state by receiving the Arjuna Award. Moreover, Lovlina was influenced by her siblings. She began with Muay Thai but then converted to boxing when the chance arose. So, She took part in a Sports Authority of India (SAI) trial at her school. Where she drew the attention of Padum Boro, the coach under whom she began practicing the sport in 2012.

Pallab Lochan Das, the Assam Member of Parliament, also congratulated the fighters on their qualifying. “My sincere congrats to @LovlinaBorgohai on being the first boxer from #Assam to qualify for the #TokyoOlympics,” he said on Twitter.
