Fidji Simo, former head of the Facebook app, joins Instacart as CEO. After eight years as Vice President and Head of the Facebook app. Which reaches billions of users each month. Fidji Simo will leave Facebook and take over as CEO of online grocery leader Instacart, effective August 2, just weeks ahead of its first public offering.
Simo has been in charge of the development and strategy for the Facebook app for the last decade. Overseeing features such as the News Feed, Stories, Groups, Video, Marketplace, Gaming, News, Dating, and Ads. Simo has also worked on the Facebook website.
On Thursday, the company announced that Apoorva Mehta, the company’s founder. And current CEO would be promoting to Executive Chairman of the Board. And will continue to report to the company’s Board of Directors.
Since founding Instacart 10 years ago with the ambitious aim of putting a whole industry online. Mehta has built and developed an amazing business that now services the entire food supply chain.
