India’s Art History: Glimpses from Past to Present

A recent exhibition titled “Past to Present” has brought legendary paintings and sculptures from renowned artists to Bengaluru, thanks to Smita Art, a well-established art institution in Kolkata. The exhibition showcases works from different periods of India’s art history, featuring Bengal masters, Indian masters, and contemporary artists. According to Ajit Thakur from Smita Art, the exhibition aims to raise awareness about the incredible works by various artists who have contributed to India’s legacy in the art world. The exhibition features works by artists such as Rabindranath Tagore, MF Hussain, Sachin Sagare, Umakant Kannade, and Paresh Hazra. Since most of the works at the exhibition belong to private collections or Smita Art, many of the paintings are not for sale.

Artistic Diversity

The exhibition’s walls are adorned with works by some of India’s art royalty, including pieces by Roerich, Jamini Roy, Tyeb Mehta, and Murali Nagapuzha. The exhibition also features acrylic on canvas works by artists such as Kaushik Paul and Amit Bhar. Additionally, sculptures by Subrata Paul, Somnath Chakraborty, and others are on display, showcasing the artistic brilliance of the nation’s sculptors.

A Unique Opportunity

It is not often that one gets to view such artistic brilliance up close, and as such, the exhibition provides a unique opportunity for art enthusiasts. “Past to Present” by Smita Art, Kolkata, will be on display at Bangalore International Centre until November 28, with free entry for all visitors.
