India vs South Africa 1st Test Day 1: India Loses Openers Early
On the first session of Day 1 of the first IND vs SA Test at the SuperSport Park in Centurion, India lost both their openers quickly and were reduced to 23/2. This happened after Temba Bavuma won the toss and chose to bowl first. Ravindra Jadeja was unable to play due to back spasms, leading to R Ashwin’s inclusion in the lineup. Additionally, India gave a debut to Prasidh Krishna.

The match marked the long-awaited return of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah for the first time since the 2023 ODI World Cup final loss to Australia. This also marked Rohit’s comeback as the captain for the two Tests that are part of the World Test Championship cycle, with Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul having led the team in the T20Is and ODIs, respectively.
However, India faced setbacks as Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane were dropped from the squad, and Mohammed Shami was still recovering from an injury.
