Liverpool secured a record 19th appearance in the League Cup semi-finals with a 5-1 victory over West Ham United. Curtis Jones was the standout player, scoring twice in the match. Dominik Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo, and Mohamed Salah also found the back of the net for Juergen Klopp’s team in what turned out to be a one-sided affair in the final 20 minutes.
“The performance, the scoresheet, the result and the individual performances put together to make a team on the pitch,” said Klopp in an interview with Sky Sports. “The boys enjoyed it a lot, they worked hard but enjoyed it too with joyful football in moments. Nice to see.”

Szoboszlai opened the scoring with a thunderous strike from 20 yards in the 28th minute, while Jones doubled Liverpool’s lead early in the second half after a brilliant exchange with Darwin Nunez. Gakpo and Salah added to the scoreline, with Jones completing his brace to seal the emphatic victory for Liverpool.
Reflecting on his performance, Jones said, “I want to score goals and help the team. It is okay playing well, but you need to score goals. I’ve scored two, so a big smile on my face.”
West Ham Struggles Against Nine-Time League Cup Champions
West Ham faced an uphill battle against the nine-time League Cup champions, with illness hampering their preparation for the game. Additionally, the team had only managed to secure one victory at Anfield in 60 years, setting the stage for a tough night for David Moyes’ side.
Chelsea, Fulham, and Middlesbrough Secure Semi-Final Berths
Alongside Liverpool, Chelsea, Fulham, and Championship side Middlesbrough also progressed to the semi-finals. Chelsea and Fulham secured their places with penalty-shootout wins over Newcastle United and Everton, respectively.
