From Housekeeping to India’s Medal-Winning Bodybuilder: The Journey of R Manikandan



R. Manikandan, the founder of Toneez Fitness Centres, is currently representing India in the 12th World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship in Uzbekistan. This is his third time participating in the competition, having previously won the Mr World title twice.

Manikandan’s journey began 15 years ago when he was 15 and faced bullying in school for being overweight. This led him to the local gym, where he was introduced to the world of bodybuilding. His dedication and passion for the sport led him to compete in various bodybuilding competitions, even as he juggled schoolwork and odd jobs to support his passion.

Despite dropping out of engineering college, Manikandan’s commitment to bodybuilding has led him to success, including winning the Mr World title in 2017 and 2018. His dedication to the sport extends beyond competitions, as he also aims to change the perception of bodybuilding in India, urging people to treat it as the challenging sport it truly is.

In addition to his bodybuilding endeavors, Manikandan has also established three Toneez Wellness stores in Chennai and Hyderabad. Despite facing various challenges, he has persevered and grown his fitness centers, exemplifying his determination and dedication.
