Rashid Khan’s Lower-Back Surgery: Cricket Update



Star Afghanistan cricketer Rashid Khan has successfully undergone a minor lower-back surgery in the UK and is expected to make a full recovery, as confirmed by the Afghanistan Cricket Board.

Rashid’s Surgery and Recovery

The talismanic spinner, Rashid Khan, will unfortunately miss the upcoming Big Bash League, commencing on December 7, as a result of his surgery. The Afghanistan Cricket Board released a statement on Friday, revealing that Rashid, who played a pivotal role in the team’s successful outings against England and Pakistan during the World Cup in India, underwent the procedure under the care of a top surgeon in the UK.

“Afghanistan’s cricket sensation, Rashid Khan, underwent a minor lower back surgery led by renowned surgeon Dr. James Alibone in the UK. He has been advised to take a brief period of rest and is expected to recover soon,” the ACB statement noted.

Fellow cricketer Mohammad Nabi shared a heartfelt message alongside an image of Rashid post-surgery, expressing his well wishes with, “Get well soon king.”

Rashid’s Involvement with Adelaide Strikers

The Adelaide Strikers, Rashid’s team in the Big Bash League since 2017, had previously announced on Thursday that he would undergo a minor operation. Tim Nielsen, the General Manager of Cricket at Adelaide Strikers, conveyed the team’s sentiment, stating, “Rashid is a beloved member of the Strikers and a fan favorite who has been with us for seven years, so he will be sorely missed this summer. Rashid loves Adelaide and the Strikers, and we fully support him as he undergoes treatment for this injury to ensure his long-term involvement in the game.”

“Our list management and coaching staff will now look at our options for replacing Rashid for the upcoming season, and a replacement player will be announced in due course,” Nielsen added.

Rashid, who previously threatened to skip the Big Bash League in protest of Australia canceling an ODI series against Afghanistan, has been an integral part of Afghanistan’s spirited campaign in the ODI World Cup in India.
