Launched in the United States in 2021 by Mo and Noor Wadhwani, Athletifreak has recently expanded to India, unveiling its first store in Delhi. Noor shared that the brand’s inception was inspired during her husband’s preparation for the Ironman triathlon. With her background in fashion and a shared enthusiasm for fitness, they set out to create athleisure that not only fulfills functional needs but also celebrates personal style. “We aim to develop a persona where individuals can confidently declare, ‘I am an athletic freak,’” she explains. This ethos pushes the boundaries of traditional sportswear, merging fashion with functionality.

The collection features a diverse range of apparel, including training shorts, joggers, classic polos, hoodies, and sweatshirts, all designed with both aesthetics and performance in mind. Noor and Mo emphasize that their rigorous research into fabric technology has resulted in lightweight, breathable, and moisture-wicking garments, with 60% of their lineup made from sustainable materials. As Mo passionately puts it, “The garments must not only perform but also feel good and look good to bridge the gap between fashion and functionality.”

As the fitness culture in India rapidly evolves, the Wadhwanis believe their timing is impeccable. Their brand story resonates with diverse audiences, each embarking on their individual health journeys. Mira Kapoor aligns with this vision, with her own wellness pursuits including Pilates and mindfulness. “Shahid and I were drawn to a brand rooted in India yet globally appealing, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing wellness in our communities,” she shares.

Choosing Delhi for the debut store reflects both Noor’s familiarity with the city and its keen appreciation for luxury fashion. “Delhi is not just a market; it’s a backdrop for our ambitious entry into India. We aspire to make our mark not just in Delhi and Mumbai but everywhere,” Noor adds, highlighting their plans for significant online presence alongside physical stores.

Shahid Kapoor also weighs in on essential athleisure staples, highlighting must-haves like versatile hoodies, comfortable sweatpants, and high-performance t-shirts. He emphasizes that personal style should reflect comfort and confidence, aligning perfectly with Athletifreak’s design philosophy. “The garments are crafted for real life, enabling freedom of movement while ensuring style,” he states, explaining his motivation to be part of the brand’s growth.

Athleisure has transformed into a go-to option everyone can embrace across various contexts, whether working out, traveling, or socializing. “With Athletifreak’s designs, you can seamlessly transition from a gym session to a night out,” Noor notes, exemplifying the versatility of their core black leggings paired with stylish jackets, allowing for effortless styling.

In their ambition for creating community engagement, Athletifreak plans to collaborate with India’s rapidly growing fitness circles, demonstrating how spaces like courts, classes, or run clubs can cultivate friendships and connections. “This aligns perfectly with our philosophy of fostering a community of health enthusiasts who share a passion for movement and fitness,” Mira concludes.
