KL Rahul to Lead India in ODI Series Against South Africa

Wicket-keeper batsman K.L. Rahul has been appointed captain of the Indian team for the three-match One-Day International series against South Africa, commencing on November 30. The leadership change comes as regular skipper Shubman Gill recovers from a neck spasm sustained during the first Test against the Proteas in Kolkata.

Rishabh Pant, who is currently leading the Indian side in the second Test in Guwahati, will serve as Rahul’s vice-captain. This selection marks Pant’s return to the ODI setup for the first time since the series in Sri Lanka last year.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee has introduced several strategic changes to the squad. Senior pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj have been rested for the series, managing their workload ahead of a busy international calendar. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja makes his comeback to the 50-over format, replacing Axar Patel, who featured in the recent ODI series against Australia.

Middle-order batsman Tilak Varma receives a call-up as a potential solution for the number four position, left vacant due to Shreyas Iyer’s injury. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad have also been recalled, with one of them expected to partner veteran Rohit Sharma at the top of the batting order.

The pace attack will be led by Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, and Harshit Rana, with all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy providing additional bowling options. India will look to improve upon their recent 1-2 series defeat in Australia last month.
