ServiceNow Invests $40 Million in Indian Banking Software Firm BusinessNext

In a strategic move to expand its presence in the global financial services market, ServiceNow—an American enterprise software giant known for automating workflows—has announced a $40 million investment in Indian banking software specialist BusinessNext. This investment values BusinessNext at $700 million, securing ServiceNow approximately a 5% equity stake in the 24-year-old company.

This partnership aims to enhance BusinessNext’s capabilities, providing the Indian firm access to ServiceNow’s extensive global sales network. As both companies expand their AI-driven financial services solutions, they expect significant growth potential from this collaboration.

A Growing Success Story

BusinessNext, once known as CRMNext, has made considerable strides outside India. Based in Noida, the company reported revenues of approximately $32 million in its latest financial year. It currently caters to over 70 banks in India and across regions like Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and the U.S. Its impressive client roster includes notable names such as the Reserve Bank of India and major banks like State Bank of India and HDFC Bank.

Founder and CEO Nishant Singh pointed out that nearly half of BusinessNext’s revenue comes from international markets. He emphasized that these markets are crucial for the company’s future growth. The collaboration with ServiceNow goes beyond financial investment; it serves as a vehicle for BusinessNext to leverage ServiceNow’s established market presence, which Singh describes as “borrowing” the U.S. software group’s go-to-market machinery.

Innovative Software Solutions

BusinessNext specializes in customer-facing banking workflows, while ServiceNow is recognized for its strengths in workflow automation and back-office systems. This combination of expertise marks a significant opportunity for both firms as they plan to jointly offer solutions tailored for financial institutions.

“India’s financial services sector is at an inflection point,” noted Kulmeet Bawa, ServiceNow’s group vice president and managing director for India and SAARC. He added that the partnership aligns ServiceNow’s enterprise workflow platform with the banking expertise of BusinessNext, enhancing their collective offerings.

The Role of AI in Banking

Founded in 2002, BusinessNext has devoted several years to developing what it terms an “autonomous banking” platform. This platform utilizes AI agents to automate banking processes while ensuring that sensitive customer data is securely stored on private AI infrastructure. Singh highlighted that AI was integral to the company’s design from the very beginning, stating, “We rewrote our stack to put that fundamentally at the core.”

The Future Ahead

With a workforce of over 1,300 employees, BusinessNext was previously valued at $181 million in 2021, as reported by private market intelligence platform Tracxn. The company has raised more than $60 million in external funding, with notable investors including Avataar Ventures and Norwest Venture Partners.

This investment comes at a time when established enterprise software vendors are under increasing pressure from customers seeking AI-native alternatives. ServiceNow’s move into banking through this acquisition signifies its commitment to enhancing its software portfolio through strategic partnerships focused on AI-driven solutions.

With ongoing advancements in technology and banking, the partnership between ServiceNow and BusinessNext represents a pivotal step in shaping the future of financial services, paving the way for more innovative solutions that cater to modern banking needs.
